WORLD POLIO DAY | 24 OCTOBER 2026

Every child deserves a polio free future.

World Polio Day 2026: Every Child Deserves a Polio Free Future

Observed on 24 October, World Polio Day reminds us that protecting children from preventable diseases begins with awareness, vaccination, and collective action.

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly infectious viral disease that can invade the nervous system and cause permanent paralysis. Although there is no cure for paralytic polio, vaccination offers effective protection against the disease.

As we commemorate World Polio Day 2026, NurseMaryJaneSpeaks and Every Life Counts Initiative (ELCI) reaffirm the importance of preventive health education in protecting children, strengthening families, and building healthier communities.

Parents, caregivers, educators, and community members all have a role to play in protecting children from vaccine preventable diseases.

What can we do to help prevent polio?

– Ensure children receive their recommended polio vaccinations according to the national immunisation schedule.
– Seek accurate vaccination information from qualified healthcare professionals and authorised health services.
– Challenge misinformation that may discourage parents and caregivers from immunising their children.
– Support community health education initiatives that make reliable health information accessible to families.

Polio prevention requires sustained commitment. Every child deserves access to essential immunisation services, regardless of their background or circumstances.

At Every Life Counts Initiative, we believe that prevention begins with knowledge and that protecting children’s health today helps create a healthier future for generations to come.

Let us work together towards a polio free world one child, one family, and one community at a time.

Polio is a preventable disease that can cause lifelong paralysis. Vaccination remains our strongest protection against this threat.

As parents, caregivers, educators and communities, we all have a role to play:

✅ Ensure children receive their recommended polio vaccinations.

✅ Seek accurate immunisation information from qualified health professionals.

✅ Help dispel myths that prevent children from accessing life saving vaccines.

At Every Life Counts Initiative, we believe that prevention begins with knowledge and that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn and thrive.

Let’s protect every child, one community at a time. 💚
